Why pacing matters

With chronic Lyme, pushing through fatigue often leads to a crash — a dramatic worsening that can last days or weeks. Pacing is the skill of staying within your energy envelope so you can function more consistently.

The energy envelope

Think of your daily energy as a fixed budget (not an unlimited reserve). The goal is to spend within it — not borrow against tomorrow.

Practical pacing tools

  1. Track your energy for a week — note what drains you and what restores you.
  2. Find your baseline — the activity level you can sustain without crashing.
  3. Break tasks up — 15 minutes on, 10 minutes rest, repeat.
  4. Plan rest proactively — before you're exhausted, not after.
  5. Protect sleep — it's when your body clears inflammation.

Gentle lymphatic-friendly movement

  • Slow walking (5–15 min)
  • Restorative yoga (floor-based, supported)
  • Lymphatic self-massage
  • Diaphragmatic breathing

Red flags to respect

If an activity causes symptoms to spike within 24–48 hours, it was too much. Scale back — that's data, not failure.

Consistency beats intensity. Small, sustainable steps add up to real recovery over time.
