Why compression helps
Gentle, graduated compression supports your lymphatic vessels, reduces fluid buildup, and eases the aching that comes with lipedema and lymphedema. It's one of the most effective daily tools available.
Getting started
- Get professionally measured. A certified fitter ensures the right size and pressure — ill-fitting garments can do more harm than good.
- Start low and slow. Begin with a lower compression class (15–20 mmHg) and shorter wear times, building up as tolerated.
- Put them on in the morning before swelling sets in, when your legs are least swollen.
- Moisturize at night, not before putting garments on — lotion degrades the fabric.
Caring for garments
- Hand-wash or use a garment bag on gentle cycle
- Air dry — heat ruins elasticity
- Replace every 4–6 months as they lose compression
When to pause
Skip compression during active infections, on broken skin, or if you notice numbness or increased pain. Talk to your provider about adjusting.
Compression is a daily act of care, not a punishment. The right garments feel supportive, not restrictive.
